Biography
Born and raised in Scarborough (nowadays an administrative division of City of Toronto) on metal and punk rock music. He came from an academic family and his father came from New Delhi. When he was 6, he played for the first time on an acoustic guitar, and later, when he got into rock music, he got for Christmas a new electric guitar. In 1991 he graduated at De La Salle College in Toronto. After graduation he took film studies and Trichy Sankaran's World Music class at York University. His first band was trio, previously duo, called Dapper Dan Trio, where he was performing with Paul Ziraldo. But the trio was not acting long. After the previous trio was following his next band, post-hardcore trio Horstack. Later, he reunited with Paul Ziraldo between 1994 and 1995 into band called Violent Brothers, which was active only one year and where Danko performed as Cruz Control. His self-titled band, which founded in 1996 along with John Calabrese and Michael Cari Cari, quickly earned a reputation throughout Canada for its sex-packed live shows and Danko's big loud mouth.
His band released several EPs and albums worldwide and was nominated for 4 Juno Awards.
In Europe they play the largest festivals (and twice Danko was invited to sing with Motörhead on stage). Danko also hosts the syndicated radio show The Magical World of Rock and writes columns for four European rock magazines.
In 2004 he released a spoken word album and he is one of the most marketed Canadian rockers.
He played in short films Had Enough (2010), I Think Bad Thoughts (2011), and The Ballad of Danko Jones (2012).
In 2017 he founded the band Iron Magazine with John Calabrese, Jussi Lehtisal and Tomi Leppänen.
On 12 June 2018 was published his autobiographical book I've Got Something to Say.
