Harris was born in Tyler, Texas; he is a fifth generation Texan. He and his family had financial trouble during the savings and loan crisis of the 1980's. His family leased a piece of land outside of Palestine, Texas to grow vegetables. At age 7, he would get up at 5am pick vegetables and then sell them on side of road. Harris attended Texas A&M University in 2006. He owns Liberty Land and Ranch a company which specializes in farm and ranch real estate, management and development. He and his wife Taylor have four children. He is a deacon at First Baptist Church in Palestine.
