Biography
C. J. Uzomah (born January 14, 1993 in Suwanee, Georgia) is an American football tight end for the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Auburn.
High school
The son of Xavier and Stephanie Uzomah, he attended North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia, where he played quarterback. During his senior season, threw for 238 yards with two touchdowns, rushed for 74 yards and had 168 receiving yards with one touchdown. As a junior, he passed for 1,750 yards passing and 15 touchdowns, and ran for 800 yards and 10 more touchdowns.
College career
Primarily a blocking tight end at Auburn, Uzomah caught only 29 passes in his four seasons, but 7 of them were for touchdowns. He majored in Marketing. As a freshman, he threw a 4-yard touchdown pass.
He played in both the Medal of Honor all-star game and the Senior Bowl.
Professional career
Uzomah was drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. In 5 games, he had one catch for 4 yards.
Uzomah scored his first NFL touchdown on January 1, 2017 with a 1-yard TD catch from Andy Dalton against the Baltimore Ravens. For the season, he played in 10 games -- starting 8 due to injuries to starter Tyler Eifert -- and had 25 receptions for 234 yards.
Personal
In May 2014, as Uzomah was attending Auburn University, his father, Xavier, a financial analyst, earned an MBA from Auburn. His father holds a bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Southern Mississippi. C.J.'s mother, Stephanie, is a kindergarten teacher and holds a master's degree in education.
