Ben Denis Unwin (15 August 1977 – 14 August 2019) was an Australian-American film and television actor and director. He was best known for playing the role of Jesse McGregor on the television soap opera Home and Away.
Early life
Unwin was born on August 15, 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
He began his acting career in 1989, at the age of 12, when he played a lead in the Musical "Seven Little Australians,” a classic Australian children's literature novel by Ethel Turner, published in 1894. The musical ran for a year at the Footbridge Theatre in Camperdown, Australia.
Career
The exposure from the musical landed him roles in television shows, commercials and stage, while he was still a student. In 1991, he played Andrew in the comedy television series, Eggshells. Two years later, he was seen in as Adam Storey in the Family Life episode of television series, G.P.
His big break came in 1996, when he landed the role of bad boy Jesse McGregor on the television hit "Home and Away.” Unwin had actually auditioned for another role for the series, however, the impressed directors decided to create a new character, Jesse, for him. Unwin remained a part of the series from 1996 until 2000, and again from 2002 to 2005.
Unwin left acting for good in 2005 and studied for a law degree and later worked as a solicitor in Newcastle, New South Wales
Death
Unwin died on 14 August 2019, at the age of 41, in New South Wales, Australia. New South Wales police found Unwin’s dead body near Minyon Falls, a waterfall situated in a national park close to Australia's Gold Coast.
