Biography

Andrzej Szczytko (born 9 October 1955) is a Polish stage director and actor.

Career

Graduate of National Film School in Łódź (1978). His first professional stage appearance was as a Lentulus in a performance of Androcles and the Lion directed by Henryk Tomaszewski in 1977. He performed in theatres: Cyprian Norwida in Jelenia Góra (1977–78), Węgierki in Białystok (1978–1980), Polish Theatre in Szczecin (1981–83), Theater in Zielona Góra (1993–95), the Polish Theatre in Poznań (1983–2000), Nowy Theatre in Łódź (2009-2012). He collaborated with some of the most renowned theatre directors. Among them were Krystian Lupa (as Mandelabum in Dainty Shapes and Hairy Apes, or The Green Pill by Witkacy), Alina Obidniak (as Orestes in Iphigenia in Tauris by Goethe), Wanda Laskowska (as a Doctor in Ulysses by Joyce), Lech Raczak (as Titorelli in The Trial by Kafka), Jerzy Kreczmar (as German in Master Olof by Strindberg) and Krzysztof Babicki (as Gottlieb Biedermann in The Fire Raisers by Frisch). From 1991 to 1993 Szczytko was an artistic director of Polish Institute of Theatre Arts in New York City and between 1998 and 2000 he worked for Polish Theatre in Poznań as an associate director.

Since 2012 he is a guest director in Kharkiv Ukrainian Drama Theatre.
