Biography
Andrew James "A. J." Ogilvy (born 17 June 1988) is an Australian-Irish professional basketball player for the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League (NBL). He played college basketball for Vanderbilt University and has previously represented the Australian national team.
High school career
Ogilvy was born in Sydney, New South Wales and graduated from the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. He also played high school basketball with Oakhill College, located in Castle Hill, New South Wales, and his junior representative basketball with the Hills Hornets. Ogilvy was selected to represent his country in the 2007 FIBA Under-19 World Championship in which he gave an impressive performance averaging 22.3 points and 9.8 rebounds a game with 6 double-doubles and was ranked third overall in scoring. He also earned the 2005 New South Wales Junior Basketball Player of the Year Award, the Basketball Australia Education Award, and the AIS Academic Excellence Award.
College career
Upon joining the Commodores in 2007, Ogilvy made an immediate impact, averaging over 18 points and 7 rebounds during the team's non-conference schedule. As a result of Ogilvy's play (combined with the excellent three-point shooting of fellow Vanderbilt star Shan Foster) the Commodores finished their non-conference games a perfect 16–0. Analysts noted that Ogilvy provided the team with a much-needed inside game, the lack of which had previously been heavily criticized by fans, as the Commodores have traditionally relied almost exclusively on perimeter shooting. Ogilvy was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance against UMass on 5 January 2008, in which he registered the second double-double of his college career (the first being against Lipscomb) with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Ogilvy made school history his freshman year when he led the Commodores to a record 26th regular season victory with a 93–82 win over Auburn in the first round of the SEC tournament on 13 March 2008. Ogilvy notched a game-high 27 points, which also surpassed his previous career high of 26 points set against Lipscomb on 8 December 2007. Ogilvy also finished his first year at Vanderbilt as the highest scoring freshman in school history. There had been some speculation as to whether or not Ogilvy would declare himself eligible for the NBA draft following his freshman year as many experts believed he would be a first round pick, while others felt he needs more time to develop at the college level, citing his shortcomings on defense and tendency to commit unnecessary fouls as potential hindrances to his professional play.
In his sophomore season, he blocked 48 shots which put him in fourth all-time on the Vanderbilt all-time blocks list after just two seasons. In 29 games, he averaged 15.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.
In his junior season, he was selected to his third straight All-SEC second team. In 33 games, he averaged 13.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.5 blocks in 23.2 minutes per game.
In April 2010, he declared for the 2010 NBA draft, forgoing his final year of college eligibility.

Professional career
After going undrafted in the 2010 NBA draft, Ogilvy joined the Chicago Bulls for the 2010 NBA Summer League. On 7 July 2010, he signed with Beşiktaş of Turkey for the 2010–11 season.
On 6 July 2011, Ogilvy signed a one-year deal (with an option of a second) with Power Electronics Valencia of Spain. On 30 June 2012, he parted ways with Valencia following the 2011–12 season.
On 10 August 2012, Ogilvy signed with Brose Baskets of Germany for the 2012–13 season.
On 16 April 2013, Ogilvy signed with the Sydney Kings for the 2013–14 NBL season. In 28 games for the Kings, he averaged 13.1 points and 1.9 assists per game, while also leading the league in rebounds (8.7) and blocks per game (2.3). In April 2014, he announced he would not be re-signing with the Kings for the 2014–15 season.
On 3 September 2014, Ogilvy signed with La Bruixa d'Or Manresa of Spain for the 2014–15 season.
On 29 June 2015, Ogilvy signed with the Illawarra Hawks for the 2015–16 NBL season. He helped the Hawks finish the regular season in third place with a 17–11 win/loss record, booking themselves a semi-final clash with the second-seeded Perth Wildcats. After losing Game 1 in Perth, the Hawks took Game 2 at home to save the series, but went on to lose the deciding Game 3 in Perth, bowing out of the playoffs with a 2–1 defeat. Ogilvy appeared in all 31 games for the Hawks in 2015–16, averaging 16.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.7 blocks per game.
In March 2016, Ogilvy moved to Puerto Rico where he joined Atenienses de Manatí.
On 8 April 2016, Ogilvy re-signed with the Illawarra Hawks on a three-year deal.

Ogilvy has Irish citizenship, which enables him to play as a European Union player in Europe, rather than an import.
