Biography
Águeda Pizarro Oniçiu (born November 15, 1941) is a Colombian-American poet, cultural manager, and writer of Spanish and Romanian descent. She currently serves as director of the Rayo Museum dedicated to Latin American drawing and engraving, in recognition of the painter Ómar Rayo, located in the municipality of Roldanillo, Valle del Cauca in Colombia.
Life and career
Águeda Pizarro Oniçiu was born on November 15, 1941, in New York City. Her mother, Gratiana Oniçiu (1912-2000), was a Romanian aristocrat and her father, Miguel Pizarro Zambrano y García de Caravantes (1897-1956), was a writer, teacher and diplomat. He was also a cousin of Spanish philosopher Maria Zambrano; a friend and collaborator of poet/dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca; Jorge Guillen; and Pedro Salinas.
Oniçiu graduated in Roman Philology, French Arts and Literature from Columbia University in New York, where years later she would be a French and Spanish teacher.
In 1985, Oniçiu established a meeting of Colombian poets in Roldanillo, Valle del Cauca, which is now held every year with a sizable reception. It is the first and only one of its kind in Colombia and allows several artists to show and disseminate their works.
Some of her most relevant works are: País Piel (1987), Soy Sur (1988), Saremas (1996), dedicated to his daughter Sara, Labio adicto (1972), Ultramor (1998), Miguel Pizarro, flecha sin blanco (2004) among other.
Personal life
Águeda Pizarro was married to the Colombian artist Ómar Rayo (1928 – 2010). They had a daughter Sara Rayo Pizarro, also an artist who continues with the legacy left by her father.
