Biography
Aart Kool (Rotterdam, 1787 – Maastricht, 1862) was een Nederlands officier der Genie en ridder in de Militaire Willems-Orde. Hij werd op 12 mei 1823 onderscheiden voor het aanleggen van de versterkingen aan de Nederlandse Zuidgrens. Aart Kool diende van 1808 tot 1814 als in het Franse leger en werd in 1850 als Nederlands luitenant-kolonel gepensioneerd.
Zijn kleinzoon luitenant-generaal b.d. P.C. Kool heeft De Russische Veldtocht van 1812 opgetekend in een boekwerkje (overdruk uit de nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant) uitgegeven door Nijgh & Van Ditmar (1912). Het is in bezit van het IISG Amsterdam.
