Zedi Feruzi (died 23 May 2015) was a Burundian politician. He served as leader of the Union for Peace and Development until he was shot and killed during the 2015 Burundian unrest.
Biography
Feruzi served as leader of the Union for Peace and Development-Zigamibanga, a party opposed to President Pierre Nkurunziza.
Feruzi was killed with his bodyguard by unidentified drive-by shooters on 23 May 2015, during the 2015 Burundian unrest. The attack occurred in the Ngagara district of the Burundian capital Bujumbura. Several thousand people attended his funeral.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the United Nations Security Council both condemned the killing.
After his death other opposition politicians and activists went into hiding. They suspended talks with the Burundian government to protest the killing of Feruzi.
Personal life
Feruzi was a Muslim, and he was buried in a Muslim cemetery in Bujumbura.
His brother served as Governor of Muyinga Province.
