Biography
Zbigniew (Zbyszek) Darzynkiewicz b. 1936 in Dzisna, is a cell biologist, particularly active in cancer research and flow cytometry. He is a Professor in the Department of Pathology, & Department of Medicine, New York Medical College, and Director of its Brander Cancer Research Institute. From 1985-90, he was a member of Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute and a professor at Weill Cornell Medical College.
He is a Foreign Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and of the Polish Academy of Learning. He is also a Fellow of the College of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.. Was the President of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (1993-94).
He received an Honorary degree (2014), from Medical University of Warsaw, Poland and the Casimir Funk Award from the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America. He is also a Founding Member of the Kosciuszko Foundation Collegium of Eminent Scientists of Polish Origin and Ancestry.
He is a trustee of the Kosciuszko Foundation, and from 1986-99 he was a member of the advisory board for The Alfred Jurzykowski Foundation in New York City.
As of July 2017, Darzynkiewicz had authored hundreds of scientific papers that had been cited around 44,000 times, and his h-index index was 106. He also authored/co-authored books and has been an inventor on US patents.
