Biography
Viacheslav Frantsevich Zagonek (Vyachaslev) (1919–1994) People's Artist of the USSR, full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Laureate of I.E.Repin State Prize, Viacheslav Zagonek, is known as an outstanding lyrical scenery master.
Youth and education
Born in 1919 in Irkutsk, Zagonek attended the Children's Art School in Leningrad from 1932, the Leningrad Intermediate Art School from 1936 until the outbreak of World War II then resumed his studies at the Imperial Academy of Arts then known as the Ilya Repin Leningrad Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, from 1945-1950.
Life and work
Zagonek became a member of the Russian Academy of Arts in 1975. Awarded the title "People's Artist of the USSR" in 1985. Zagonek lived in St. Petersburg until his death in 1994.
