Yasmin Vossoughian is an American journalist, currently working with MSNBC as a co-anchor of Morning Joe First Look.
Early life and education
Vossoughian was born in Upstate New York. She is of Iranian heritage.
Vossoughian attended Occidental College, Los Angeles, California, in 1996-2000 and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and History. While at the university, she interned with Hearst Magazines.
Career
After graduation, Vossoughian landed a job at E! Entertainment TV in New York City. In the early part of her career, she also worked briefly for "The Howard Stern Show" and then as a production assistant for the Style Network.
In 2005, she became a correspondent for Al Gore's newly launched news network Current TV (now part of Al Jazeera). Working with Current TV, she received a Cine Golden Eagle Award in 2006 for her work as a reporter/producer on the documentary "Fast Times at Tehran High," in which she looks at how young people are pushing the limits in one of the most socially repressive societies (aired 1 August 2005.)
Vossoughian left Current TV in October 2006 to join Gallup as their World Poll Correspondent. In that role, she interviewed the young West African victims of HIV/AIDS and malaria, the Fatah youth about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and such world leaders as Madeleine Albright in Qatar, and Newt Gingrich in Washington D.C. She left Gallup after two years.
After a brief stint with One Minute News in Greenville, South Carolina, in 2012 she became a reporter for the local New York City cable news channel NY1, covering breaking news daily throughout the New York area. In that role, she was part of one of the first reporting teams to broadcast from the severely hit borough of Staten Island during Hurricane Sandy in late 2012.
In April 2014, Vossoughian became a correspondent for CNN's HLN, where she was also a host and producer for The Daily Share show.
In 2017, she joined MSNBC as a co-anchor of "Morning Joe: First Look," a morning news program broadcast live Monday through Friday at 5 a.m. Eastern Time. She continues to host the show with her co-anchor Ayman Mohyeldin. In addition, she is an MSNBC correspondent and covers entertainment and breaking news.
