Biography

Xie Peiyuan (谢培元; 1936 – 2000) was a Chinese typeface designer. Xie worked on more than 30 typefaces as a designer or reviser in his life.

Life

Xie was born in Shanghai in 1936, and worked as a trainee in a poster workshop at an early age.

In 1956, Xie began to work in Xinhua Bookstore, and later entered an art press. 

In 1960's, Xie participated the design of Songyiti (宋一体) and Song'erti (宋二体).

During the Cultural Revolution, Xie was sent to work in the First Type Matrix Works of Shanghai till 1976. 

In 1991, Yingkaiti (硬楷体) which was designed by Xie, together with Qi Li, won a Judge's Prize in Morisawa Type Design Competition. 

In 1995, the design of Xinbaosong (新报宋) was finished, and was digitalized by Founder Group in 1997. 

Xie died in 2000.
