Biography
Xenokleides was Athenian poet of the 4th century BCE. None of his works have survived. He was one of the hetaera Neaira's lovers. According to Apollodorus of Acharnae, 369 BCE, he spoke out against Callistratus's request to support Sparta over Thebes. He was prosecuted for avoiding military service, convicted, and disenfranchised (Ancient Greek: ἀτιμία, atimia), though Apollodorus claims that he was exempt. Afterwards, he went to Macedonia in exile, but returned to Athens in 342 BC upon the advance of Philip II.
