Biography

Wordsworth (born Vinson Jamel Johnson) is an underground hip hop MC from Brooklyn, best known for his freestyle rap.

Wordsworth grew up in Brooklyn. A graduate of the State University of New York College at Old Westbury, Wordsworth recorded with his partner Punchline (they worked as "Punch 'N' Words") on A Tribe Called Quest's The Love Movement and on Mos Def and Talib Kweli's Black Star. Wordsworth and Punchline were featured heavily on Connecticut rapper Apathy's mixtapes, and collaborated with fellow Demigodz member, Rise. He was also involved in the critically acclaimed MTV comedy sketch series Lyricist Lounge.

He made his solo debut in September 2004 with Mirror Music. He also featured in a Slam Bush music video in which he is hip hop "battling" a nervous George W. Bush (or at least footage of him taken from other videos). Words is a member of the supergroup eMC, alongside Masta Ace, Punchline and Strick.He was the vocalist on Prince Paul's Bubble Party for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie soundtrack. He also appears in the Kevin Fitzgerald film Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme. Wordsworth is also featured on the debut album Series Premiere from Toronto hip-hop duo, Perfeck Strangers in the track "Dreams".

Wordsworth is a graduate of the University of Miami, with a Masters of Music Business, and a graduate of S.U.N.Y Old Westbury, with a bachelor's degree in Language Arts. In 2016, he was honored as one of the Top 50 graduates of Old Westbury. Towards his four year journey to graduate, Vinson used his unique skill to write his college papers in rhyme in multiple subjects. Recently, he’s received a Masters of Secondary Education, from Grand Canyon University. He is also known as a musician under the moniker Wordsworth. His music has appeared on shows such as Criminal Minds and NCIS. His musical contributions expand to animated movie soundtracks such as Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie, Dexter’s Laboratory: Hip-Hop experiment, and currently appears as himself on Netflix’s Peabody and Sherman, season 1 episode 2. During his path, he created, produced and starred in MTV’s The Lyricist Lounge show, a rhyme-sketch comedy show. Since, 2015 he has excelled as a middle school teacher at Oak Hammock Middle School and developed a music course unlike any in the country. Recently, Vinson appeared the on Fox 4 news discussing the program. The curriculum has been created by Vinson, in which he felt compelled to contribute something unique to the world after receiving his Masters of Music Business. Vinson’s plan is to turn his curriculum into a national course to be taught in schools across the country. He is currently working on an autobiography, documenting his journey of using music to get through school.In May, Vinson was the guest speaker at New York’s Baruch College to speak during one of their music business classes.
