William Rothlein (born 16 March 1943) is an American model and actor who played small roles in films.
Life and career
Rothlein was born on March 16, 1943, in New York City, New York. The son of an Austrian and an American, he worked as a model in New York and took acting lessons on the side.
He went to Europe, made an acquaintance with Salvador Dali, and worked as a model for him in Spain. He also worked as an extra for Italian film director Federico Fellini.
In 1965, by chance, the Austrian film director/producer/actor Franz Marischka and his half-brother Georg Marischka got to know Rothlein and engaged him in the role of "Haukaropora" in the planned film project The Legacy of the Inca (starring Guy Madison and Rik Battaglia, based on a novel by Karl May)
Another project, The Black Gerard, was in the works, however, it was not realized because due to the moderate financial success of The Legacy of the Inca. Rothlein then returned to the United States and lived there for eleven years in Los Angeles, where he was worked as a theater actor. In 1980, he returned to New York, where he continued to perform in theater.
On the big screen, he was only seen in smaller roles, the most recent being Ben Briand's Ingrid Silva: The Journey (2016). He has also finished filming for P.J. Posner's TV movie Perception. The film is in post-production with the release date yet to be announced.
