Whitney Hills
Quick Facts
Biography
Whitney Hills is an American video game designer and writer.
Career
After finishing her English Major at St. Olaf College, Hills started working at Microsoft Game Studios, where she was an editor and user experience lead. She then worked as an associate designer at Double Fine Productions. More recently she worked as a designer at HumaNature Studios, and as a self-employed designer and writer. She also worked at Lionhead Studios for four months during the development of Fable II.
Hills has written about women and video games and her personal experiences in the gaming industry. In an editorial published by Gamasutra she stated about her experiences:
"As a woman working in games since 2007, I've felt hurt, discouraged, and isolated by various forms of discrimination. [...] Most people have good hearts and really DON'T want to offend. But when men feel terrified of offending the women they work with, it only contributes to our sense of isolation and inequality."
Personal life
In April 2014, Hills married video game designer and writer Jordan Mechner, creator of the Prince of Persia video game franchise. She has been a gamer her whole life, enjoys playing Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and drives a motorcycle.
