Welles Crowther

Welles Crowther was an American equities trader and volunteer firefighter known for saving at least a dozen people during the September 11 attacks in New York City. He became known as the "Man in the Red Bandana" for the red bandana he always wore.

During the 9/11 attacks, Welles Crowther, who worked as an equities trader in the South Tower of the World Trade Center, helped evacuate people from the building. He used his knowledge of the building's layout to guide people to safety and even carried a woman down 17 flights of stairs.

Welles Crowther was known as the "Man in the Red Bandana" because he always carried a red bandana with him, which he used to cover his mouth and nose during the 9/11 attacks. His distinctive bandana became a symbol of heroism and bravery.

Unfortunately, Welles Crowther lost his life while rescuing people in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. His body was later recovered in the wreckage, and he was posthumously awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2017 ESPY Awards.

Welles Crowther is remembered as a hero who sacrificed his own life to save others during the 9/11 attacks. His story has been featured in books, documentaries, and memorial exhibits. The Red Bandana Project was also founded in his memory to promote acts of kindness and compassion.
