Wayne Mason

Wayne Ashley Mason, MNZM, is a New Zealand musician born in New Plymouth in 1949. He was a founding member of 1960s pop group The Fourmyula and later formed Rockinghorse and The Warratahs before embarking on a solo career in 1994.
Mason wrote a series of hit singles with Ali Richardson for The Fourmyula; his best known song is "Nature", which in 2001 was voted No.1 in a list of the Top 100 New Zealand Songs of All Time. The song, which Mason re-recorded on his 2001 album Same Boy, has also been covered by The Mutton Birds and Margaret Urlich.
Mason was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for his contribution to the music industry in New Zealand in the 2002 Queen's Birthday Honours.
Mason still tours on a regular basis throughout New Zealand with any number of different bands or line-ups. He has played a strong part in encouraging new talent with both his sons playing in up and coming Kiwi bands. Mason also played a large part in the success of fellow Kapiti Coast residents Monkey Puzzle who he allowed to use his basement as a practice space as well as giving them invaluable advice during this time.
Mason is currently working on a debut album with his new band The Superheaters, featuring Richard Te One, Steve Moodie and Chris Armour.
