Biography

Dr.Wang, Huiyao (Henry) (Chinese: 王辉耀; pinyin: Wáng Huīyào; born July 2, 1958) is the Founder and President of Center for China and Globalization (CCG), a top independent global think tank in China. In February, 2015, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang appointed Dr. Wang as Counselor for China State Council. Dr. Wang is a well-known Chinese expert on China and globalization issues, on global migration, global talent, overseas Chinese, students, returnees and on Chinese firms going global and MNC in China; he is also a founder of several Chinese well-known overseas returnees organizations; a social entrepreneur and a top adviser to the Chinese government at both central and provincial levels as well as to international organizations and large enterprises. He has a work life span over both Chinese and foreign governments, multinational executive and business entrepreneurs and academic circles. He has taught at Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of Western Ontario and was a visiting fellow at Brookings Institution and a senior fellow at Harvard Kennedy School. He is currently the Dean of Institute of Development of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. He is on the Migration Advisory Board of International Organization of Migration (IOM), a member of Yale University Asia Development Council, an advisor for Laureate Education Group, a member of advisory board of Richard Ivey School of Business in Asia, a Steering Committee Member of Metropolis International, a policy fellow of IZA and an advising member to the board of Association of Executive Search Consultants in New York. He is also a frequent speaker at different international forums and often interviewed by various influential global media.

Biography

Dr. Wang Huiyao (Henry) is the Founder and President of Center for China and Globalization (CCG), the largest independent think tank in China which has nearly 100 full-time research and working staff, with head office in Beijing and established CCG research institutes in Guangzhou, Qingdao, Shenzhen and representatives in other countries. According to the 2015 Global Go To Think Tank Index by the University of Pennsylvania Think Tank and Civil Society Program (TTCSP), which is the most influential think tank research report, CCG was ranked 110th of the top think tanks worldwide, one of the world's top 50 independent think tanks and one of 100 top think tanks to watch for in the world. TTCSP also ranked CCG as the 7th top think tank in China and No. 1 independent think tank among the top Chinese think tanks.

Dr. Wang has been appointed by the Chinese Premier as Counselor of China State Council Counselor’s Office. He is the Founding President of China Global Talent Society, and Vice Chairman of the China Western Returned Scholars Association (WRSA), the largest Chinese overseas returned scholars’ organization in China with over 100,000 members across China. In addition, he is the Vice Chairman of China Association for International Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Commerce and also the Vice Chairman of China Talent Society of Ministry of Human Resources and Vice Chairman of Overseas Returned Entrepreneurial Guiding Committee of the same Ministry. He is currently the Dean of Institute of Development of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in China, He is a Deputy Director of Central Economic Committee of China Jiu San Society and is an adviser to Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Beijing Committee as well as serving as a Standing Director of China Overseas Friendship Association of The Ministry of United Front. Dr. Wang was also a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and a visiting fellow of the Brookings Institution. Dr. Wang is well known for his initiatives and leadership for social organizations and think tanks in China. He has been an adviser to the Chinese government, as well as established enterprises and international organizations in China and world. Dr. Wang was appointed as an expert’s group leader for global talents strategy study by Chinese Government Talents Coordination Office as well as a team leader for economic group of Overseas Experts Advisory Committee for the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. Dr. Wang used to work as an official for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade (now Ministry of Commerce) and involved with China’s going global initiatives.

Dr. Wang’s international experience includes serving as Chief Trade Representative for the Quebec Government Offices in China and Hong Kong (the first mainland born Chinese to be appointed to this position in Canada), Director of Asia of SNC-Lavalin and Vice President for AMEC-Agra in Canada, both among the largest project consulting and management companies in the world. He has also served in the past as a senior China adviser to GE, Siemens, ABB, Alstom, Westinghouse and Mitsubishi among others.

Dr. Wang has a BA degree in English and American Literature from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and later continued his graduate studies at University of Windsor, University of Western Ontario and University of Manchester, obtained an MBA degree and a PhD degree in international management. He also undertook further training at Harvard Business School.

Dr. Wang had been an adjunct professor at the University of Western Ontario's Ivey School of Business and Peking University's Guanghua School of Management. He has also been a visiting professor at the China University of Political Science and Law, China Agricultural University, Xian Jiaotong University, Harbin Engineering University, Capital University of Economics and Business and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Dr. Wang has also taught at Tsinghua University's Economic and Management School. His research focusing on global migration, global talent, oveseas Chinese, students, returnees and on Chinese firms going global and MNC in China. Dr. Wang has published over 60 books and over 100 articles and papers on these subjects.

Dr. Wang is a frequently invited speaker at different Chinese and international forums and often interviewed by well known media such as CCTV, China Daily, People’s Daily, BBC, CNN, NHK, New York Times, The Economist, Financial Times, Newsweek, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, CBC, Canadian Business, Globe and Mail, South China Morning Post, Ming Pao among others.
