Biography
Walter Wobmann (born 21 November 1957 in Entlebuch) is a Swiss politician of the Swiss People's Party.
Biography
Wobmann has held an MP position at the National Council of Switzerland since 2003. He's a member of the Campaign for an Independent and Neutral Switzerland.
In March 2017 Wobmann putted up a bill that would have banned wearing a burqa in passport photos, arguing that it "is not a question of religious freedom but of equal treatment", saying that it was unfair that burqas could be worn but other headgear could not be worn. The bill failed to pass in the parliament, and he then began collecting signatures to launch a referendum on the ban for 2017. He has claimed that his campaign, called “Yes to a ban on face-covering,” has so far collected over two-thirds of the 100,000 signatures needed to force a referendum.
