Virgilio Fossati (born 12 September 1889 in Milan; died 1918) is a former Italian association football player and manager. A former midfielder, he played for and coached Italian club Internazionale, also representing the Italy national football team; he captained both teams throughout his career.
Career
Fossati spent his entire career with Internazionale. He played 97 times for the club and scored 4 goals. Throughout his career, Fossati served as Inter and Italy's captain and also the first Inter player to play with the Italian national team. He later also coached Inter.
Fossati's career was ended by World War I. He died in 1918 during a World War I battle between the Italian and Austrian armies.
His brother Giuseppe (born in Milan, 1894) played 43 matches in 3 years with Internazionale.
