Biography

Vicki Young is a British journalist who has been the Chief Political Correspondent of BBC News since 2014, taking up the post made free by Norman Smith's transition to Assistant Political Editor. She has led BBC coverage into more than four general elections and occasionally serves as a relief presenter on the BBC News channel.

Early life

Young was born in England and graduated from Truro High School for Girls in 1988. During her senior years, she served as Head Girl at the school. She then attended New Hall, Cambridge.

Career

Young's career at the BBC began when she joined the One O'Clock News as a political correspondent. She was a correspondent for BBC Breakfast from 2008 to 2011. In 2014, Young was promoted to the role of Chief Political Correspondent. She was given the position in response to Norman Smith's promotion to Assistant Political Editor. In 2014, she served as a sit-in reporter for Daily Politics and has also reported for BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 Live.

During live reporting for the 2017 general election, Young was 'divebombed' by a seagull, in the village of Mevagissey in Cornwall.

Young appeared as herself in three episodes of BBC One's political thriller Bodyguard from August to September 2018.

In August 2019 she interviewed Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Biarritz, France during the G7 summit.
