Biography

Childhood

Vali Boghean is the 14th child in the family. His father played the accordion for a long time - that is how Valentin got the first knowledge about music. At the age of eight Valentin was enrolled at the Music School in Cornești in the piano class. Two years later, he began studying the trumpet. At age 13, he was already in the folk instrumental orchestra at the Children's Creation Center in Ungheni.

Aghelia

In 1992, seven of the brothers Boghean (5 brothers and 2 sisters) founded the "Aghelia" music band. The name was given in honor of the older brother who disappeared in suspicious circumstances in the Soviet army. The band was popular in Ungheni and the whole country. They were invited to concerts in the city of Iași (Romania), where the band played the folk-rock style.

X-band

After a while, Valentin returned to Ungheni and started to study and perform jazz music in the most serious way, having as professors Pavel Căpăţină and Ion Lincovschi. In 1999, he acquired a new musical instrument - the saxophone. In 2000, together with Pavel Capaţină and Ion Lincovschi he founded the jazz-rock band "X-Band", where Valentin amazes as a real saxophone improviser, as well as vocalist.

Towards the end of the year, the "X-Band", where Valentin as the instrumental leader, ranked 1st at the Republican Festival "Autumn Harmonies", organized by the National People's Creation Center. One month later, the same band was nominated as the best music band at the International Music Festival "Steaua Chisinau".

Trigon

In the years 2001-2003 he participated in several folk music festivals. He returned with prizes in the musical instruments section (Moldovan Worship Festival at Edineț, Folk Music Festival from Nasaud - Romania, Folk Festival Maria Tănase - Romania).

In 2003, Valentin, invited by Anatol Ştefăneţ, leader of Trigon, participated as an instrumentalist within the "SeaZONE" project, in order to release an ethno-jazz album "Autumn Visit." This project was eventually realized with the direct participation of Crimean guitarist, Enver Izmailov. After this collaboration, Valentin became a Trigon member until 2007. Presently, Valentin and Trigon still collaborate on various projects.

Boghean Band

In 2009, Vali Boghean set up his own band, Vali Boghean Band, along with the cimbalom player Valeriu Cascaval, guitarist Sandu Daraban and contrabassist Oleg Lascu. Later joined the drummer Gari Tverdohleb, keyboardist Valentin Schirca, bass player Gheorghe Postoronca, violinist Radu Talambuţă and pipe player Bogdan Turcan. The composition of the band has changed over time - Vitalie Turcanu, Sandu Focşa also collaborated.

Boghean Band's music contains original improvisations and is difficult to define as a specific genre, being a fusion of Balkan Jazz, European Ethno-East, Folklore, Oriental Music, Gypsies, classical elements, all combined in a modern way. This musical bouquet brings out the most diverse feelings, creating an atmosphere that everyone can find beautiful.

All members are musicians with extensive experience from many national and international projects. In December 2010, Vali and his band held the first concert at the Opera and Ballet Theater in collaboration with Victor Socaciu.

Currently, the band consists of six founding instrumentalists, but in different concerts, they collaborate with six others, so the band unites 12 talented instrumentalists and they are appreciated both at home and abroad.
