Tyrone Smith (born 18 March 1986) is an American musician, record producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and entrepreneur.
Early life and education
Tyrone Smith was born on March 18, 1986, in Dallas, Texas. Born in a musical family, Smith got his start in music at an early age. By the age of 11, he had picked up playing piano, organ, and saxophone.
Smith studied music at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas. While in high school, he performed music actively and participated in the jazz combo as well as the R&B ensemble. He was trained by various well-known musicians including Jim Riggs, Shelly Carol, Roger Boykin, and Pat Franklin.
At the school, he earned many awards including Downbeat Student Awards, NAACP Act-So Winner, and Wabash School of Music Scholar.
Career
Later, Smith relocated to New York City, where he studied music at the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School.
As a musician and producer, over the years, Smith has worked for various acclaimed artists including Al Jarreau, Reggie Workman, Joss Stone, Erykah Badu, Bernard Purdie, Benny Powell, Lonnie Plaxico, Musiq Soulchild, KT Tunstall, Charlie Persip, Roy "Royalty" Hamilton, Ky-Mani Marley, and Eliza Neals.
