Biography

Kevin Adams Jr. (born December 19, 1991), better known by his stage name TUT, is an American rapper from Chattanooga, Tennessee. His debut mixtape, Preacher's Son, was released on January 5, 2015. TUT is also a founding member of the Chattonooga collective The House along with frequent collaborator Isaiah Rashad.

Early life

Kevin Adams Jr. was born and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee with his father, Kevin Adams Sr., working as a pastor at Olivet Baptist Church, while his mother, Lady Cynthia Adams, being a Gospel singer with two gospel albums. He also attended Middle Tennessee State University, where he met Isaiah Rashad, but later dropped out to pursue his rap career.

The stage name, TUT, is an acronym for "The Understood Truth". His musical influence came from his father, listening to Nappy Roots and A Tribe Called Quest. He started getting more into rapping at age 13 after influences from Tupac Shakur, OutKast, UGK, and Lil Wayne.

2015-present: Preacher's Son and building his buzz

TUT released his critically acclaimed project, Preacher's Son, on January 5, 2015, which includes guest features from Isaiah Rashad and Michael Da Vinci, among others. The mixtape also earned a score of 7.3 out of 10 from Pitchfork Media. Shortly after the mixtape, he received offers from record labels such as Atlantic Records and Warner Music Group, but decided to stay independent and build his own brand.
