Biography
Tomokazu Sugita (杉田 智和, Sugita Tomokazu, born October 11, 1980 in Saitama Prefecture) is a Japanese voice actor and narrator employed by Atomic Monkey. Best known for his role as Gintoki in Gintama, he also voices Kyon in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Kazuyoshi "Switch" Usui in Sket Dance, Hidenori Tabata in Daily Lives of High School Boys, Yuuya Kizami from the Corpse Party series, Gundham Tanaka from the Danganronpa series, Ragna the Bloodedge in Blazblue, Joseph Joestar in the 2012 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle, Yusuke Kitagawa in Persona 5, Akuru Akutsu in Aho Girl, and Ultraman Ginga and Dark Lugiel in Ultraman Ginga. He is also one of the three hosts on the radio show Bururaji (BlueRadio) promoting the videogame Blazblue which is produced and released on Nico Nico Douga. Sugita also has his own podcast titled "アニゲラ!ディドゥーーン!!!" (Anigera! Didooon!!!) that he hosts with a rotating group of friends and guests.
He plays the male lead, Yuichi Aizawa in Kanon. At the 33rd Anime Grand Prix, his voice character Gintoki Sakata won the most favorite male character which means Sugita's character roles consecutively won the most favorite male character in 2009 and 2010 Anime Grand Prix. Uniquely, those characters are from different anime: Kyon from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2009) and Gintoki Sakata from Gintama (2010).
In 2010, he starred in a live-action film Wonderful World, alongside Mamoru Miyano, Tomokazu Seki, Rikiya Koyama, Yuka Hirata, Showtaro Morikubo and Daisuke Namikawa.
Sugita won the "Best Supporting Actor" Award in the third Seiyu Awards in 2009.
