Biography

Thomas Eccles "Tommy" Aspden (born 1881, deceased) was an English professional footballer who played as a winger.
Aspden started his career with Preston North End but did not make a first-team appearance for the club and joined Kettering Town in 1901. He played for Kettering for two seasons before being signed by Football League Second Division side Burnley in August 1903. Aspden made his Burnley debut in the opening game of the 1903–04 season, a 0–0 draw with Chesterfield on 5 September 1903. He appeared in each of the first eight matches of the season, and scored his first goal for the club on 3 October 1903 in a 2–0 win over Grimsby Town.
Aspden then spent the next four matches out of the Burnley side, his place in the starting line-up taken by Jimmy Hogan. He returned to the team for the 1–3 loss to Lincoln City on 19 December 1903 and from then on missed only one game in the remainder of the season. On 23 January 1904, Aspden scored both goals in the 2–1 win against Preston North End at Turf Moor. He ended the season with four goals in 29 league appearances but left Burnley in the summer of 1904 to join Brighton & Hove Albion of the Southern Football League. Aspden later returned north to play for Lancashire Combination outfit Oldham Athletic, with whom he ended his career.
