Toby Bartlett
Quick Facts
Biography
Toby Bartlett is the sole child of the Bartlett/DuSang marriage. This is what is know about the recluse: He has pursued many activities from digital and industrial design, fine art in the format of ultra large format photography, sculpture, plus running his family's philanthropic foundation.
He has achieved great success in the private world of high-end art, with his works provenance kept quiet at his insistence. Toby's public career doesn't reveal who he has worked with (and for) as he, like his family, are extremely private. What little information Toby allows to be revealed about his work and private life is heavily censored due to those he and his family relate with (and are related to). His public artistic successes are typically unnamed, further showing his duty to his families multigenerational quest for privacy.
As a designer and artist in his teens and 20's, he was much more public about his life, his art and his design work—however as he entered his 30's he further stepped back from public life, keeping a minimal presence on social media without posting nothing that was very personal, nor about his work or philanthropy. He maintains a social media presence, presumably as a way for people to reach his representatives requesting commissions, to throw red herrings to further murky the waters about him online, or to facilitate reaching him.
Toby’s lifelong philanthropy was instilled in him by his extremely philanthropic family. His family is famously private about the majority of their philanthropic projects. It is an open secret that his family has been giving gifts (going back many generations) to universities, hospitals, medical research labs, museums, and art institutes among other recipients. This is one of their most private ventures, and research reveals they have done well at keeping their name away from their interests and work.
Toby continues to focus on art to this day, albeit in the closed-doors world of high-end art. He doesn’t show much, if any, of his work online. But if anyone asks around, it’s a name many people know in the art world. He lives a private life, rarely revealing where he is living or when or for how long. How much of this is his choice is unknown, but as he gets older he seems to be accepting that his life cannot be for public consumption.
