Biography
Tobias Hutzler is an internationally renowned photographer, director and artist based in New York City. He is best known for capturing the pulse of our constant moving contemporary culture in striking new ways. Hutzler possesses a distinct point-of-view that has attracted a range variety of clients worldwide by simply tailoring light to its subject like no one in the industry can poses. His unrepresented body of work has been widely recognized within the commercial, fine arts and editorial spectrums that has led to major global campaigns and captured public figures like Pope Francis, former U.S. President Barack Obama and other U.S. presidential candidates. Much of Hutzler’s work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Annenberg Space for Photography and the National Portrait Gallery, London.
Artful imagery has allowed Hutzler a wide range of leeway when photographing an array of subjects; by exceeding through use of light and conceptual digital ability. His photographic flare has touched rebranding campaigns for global brands like Chrysler and was commissioned by Aston Martin and The Wall Street Journal to interpret and capture the future of transportation. He continues to attract a variety of clients by producing images for brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Sony Music, Titan Watch, and Porsche. He is a regular contributor of The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and TIME Magazine currently represented by Stockland Martel.
Life and Work
The only desire of Hutzler is to capture his infatuation for exploring and understanding other countries, worlds and people which stems from a pivoting point in his photography when just as a teenager he set out on his first major photographic adventure: backpacking through Asia and Africa with a camera. Having crossed the Sahara desert, joined expeditions to climb the highest peaks in Africa and photographed throughout India. He credits traveling the world as his greatest influence. His creative process adds a level of therapy to his storytelling which helps translate his experiences and allows him to understand, communicate, and tell stories through his perspective lens.
Having received his M.F.A. in the U.S., he has studied and taught photography and film at some of the best universities in Germany, UK and the U.S. He is also a recipient of a Fulbright fellowship, a DAAD and a European Union scholarship.
Hutzler’s 2013 produced short film “Balance” premiered on Time.com and shortly thereafter went viral. After garnering millions of views worldwide, this attention getting short film attracted luxury watch maker Titan Company to commission Hutzler to direct a commercial based on “Balance” and to photograph an accompanying advertising campaign.
