Biography
Theunis Piersma (born 15 June 1958, Hemelum) is a Dutch professor of Global Flyway Ecology at the University of Groningen. He was a winner of the 2014 Spinoza Prize.
Since 2009 Piersma is member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
In 2014 he was one of four winners of the Dutch Spinoza Prize and received a 2,5 million euro grant.
Piersma also works as Senior Research Scientist and Wadden Sea team leader at the Royal Netherlands Institute of Sea Research (NIOZ).
