Biography
1943 - entered the army; served in Thailand. 1964 - Asst Prof at Hokkaido Women's Junior College & won 2nd Nitten special prize for "Seinen-zo". 1965 - Prof. 1966 - became member of Nitten & best sculptor in Hokkaido. 1976 - created "Dr. Clark on the Hill", his masterpiece. 1995 - Prof Emeritus. 1998 - died. Family donated his works to Noto-cho. The regular exhibition of his works can be seen at Noto-cho Uchiura Town Building."
Saka Tando was born in Koiji, Noto-cho (formerly Uchiura-machi), Ishikawa Pref in 1920. Father was an oil painter & grandfather was a Japanese-style painter. 1930 - moved to Sapporo, Hokkaido. 1939 - entered the Dept of Sculpture at Tokyo Fine Arts School. 1943 - while a student, his work was selected for the Shin-Bunten (now known as Nitten, the Japanese Fine Arts Exhibition).
