Biography

Sufian Abu Zaida (Arabic: سفيان أبو زايدة), also spelled Sufyan Abu Zayda, is a Palestinian leader. He was a member of Fatah and the PLO and Minister of Prisoners Affairs in the Palestinian Authority. He served twelve years in an Israeli jail (1981-1993) and was known at the time as the prisoners spokesman.

Early life

Sufian Abu Zaida was born in 1960 in Jabalia, northern Gaza. After finishing high school joined the Fatah movement.

Arrested by Israel at age 21 and accused membership in terror organization, recruiting to terror organization and holding armfire.

Political career

Zaida was a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council until 31 May 2014 when he was removed from the movement because of his criticism on President Abbas' way of rule.

He was Minister of Prisoners Affairs in the Palestinian Government of February 2005 for Fatah from February 2005 to March 2006, and between December 2005 and March 2006 also Minister of Civil Affairs.
