Biography

Stephen Moore (born November 18, 1962) is an American animator, film director and producer. He is sometimes also credited as Oscar Moore.

Early life and education

Moore was born Stephen Oscar Moore on November 18, 1962, in Millville, New Jersey. He studied animation at the California Institute of the Arts, Santa Clarita, California, from 1981 to 1985.

Career

After finishing his education, Moore worked as an artist on Steven Hahn's 1985 animation Starchaser: The Legend of Orin.As an animator, he was then significantly involved in the film The Brave Little Toaster by Jerry Rees

After joining Hyperion Pictures, Moore went to Walt Disney Studios and worked as an animator on short films and series episodes. In 1992/92, he worked as a storyboard artist on Henry Selick's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993.)

From 1993 on, he devoted himself to working as an effects animator and storyboard artist at Disney.

In addition to his work as an animator, Moore also worked as a director and producer and created the short film Redux Riding Hood in 1997, which was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short in 1998. His short film The Indescribable Nth (2000) was shortlisted for an Oscar in 2000 for Best Animated Short Film, but was not nominated.

Most recently, in 2020/21, Moore worked as a storyboard artist on comedy animation Blazing Samurai. The film is slated for release in 2021.

In addition to short and long animation films, Moore has also worked as an animator for numerous commercials, including for Froot Loops.

  • 2000: Nominated for a Primetime Emmy in "Outstanding Animated Program" for Olive, the Other Reindeer (1999) (shared with Matt Groening, Drew Barrymore, Nancy Juvonen, Claudia De La Roca, Alex Johns, John A. Davis, Keith Alcorn, and Steve Young)
