Biography
Snövit Hedstierna is a Swedish visual artist, performance artist and director. Her graduation show from Valand Academy in 2013, where she displayed the photo series Practices of Looking and the related group performance Another View, was considered controversial for its depictions of nudity. Her thesis show, To Give and To Hold, was a 48 hours long durational performance where the artist offered her body as spoon for anyone in the audience. During her last year at Valand Academy Snövit Hedstierna was accepted to the three years long MFA program in Studio Arts Intermedia at Concordia University and started her new studies in the winter of 2012. Whilst based at Concordia University, she took part in the first RIPA event organised by visual arts students from Université du Québec à Montréal, where she together with her previous husband and musician Lars Åhlund, performed Husband and Wife. Snövit Hedstierna graduated from Concordia University in May 2015 and during the same month she exhibited at the Pane Per Poveri pavilion at The Venice Biennale 2015 (La Biennale di Venezia).
During mid September 2015 she participated in the #Yesallwomen show together with artists: Kim Gordon, Kathleen Hanna, Barbara Kruger, Drue Kataoka, Jannike Sommar, Linda Vallejo, Amanda Demme, Sarah Sophie, Flicker, Maxmilla Lukacs, Deap Vally, Yun Bai, Amanda Charchian, Mira Dancy, Ariana Delawari, Zackary Drucker, Alexandra Grant, Cole James, Tasya van Ree, Favianna Rodriguez and Xaviera Simmons. Snövit Hedstierna contributed with photography and also with the performance You Are Not Alone which got reviewed as "bare and gutting". The show was curated by artist Jessie Askinazi and hosted by artist Rose McGowan.
During late September 2015 Snövit Hedstierna exhibited a one-on-one performance and installation in the "Dream a Dream" solo show at the Abteilung für Alles Andere. The artist described the exhibition as "A guided sleep meditation in an experimental and transcendental environment now and forever." Her 2016 work included An Issue of Structure at Norrtälje Konsthall and Mengi (Reykjavik).
Snövit Hedstierna has also previously exhibited at Malmö Konsthall, Skövde Konsthall, Göteborgs Konsthall, Strömstad Konsthall, Göteborg International Biennal for Contemporary Art, and Norrtälje Konsthall.
