Biography

Sidney Lee Christie (April 17, 1903 – February 15, 1974) was a United States federal judge.
Born in Sinks Grove, West Virginia, Christie received a Business College Degree from Dunsmore Business College in 1924 and an LL.B. from Cumberland University in 1928. He was in private practice from 1928 to 1960. He was a divorce commissioner for the Circuit Court of McDowell County, West Virginia. He was a judge on the Circuit Court, 8th Judicial Circuit of West Virginia from 1961 to 1964.
On April 15, 1964, Christie was nominated by President Lyndon B. Johnson to a seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia, both vacated by Harry E. Watkins. Christie was confirmed by the United States Senate on April 30, 1964, and received his commission on May 1, 1964. He served as chief judge from 1971–1973, and continued on the bench until his death.
