Biography
Shoryu Bradley is a Soto Zen priest and the founder and guiding teacher of Gyobutsuji Zen Monastery located near Kingston, Arkansas.
Biography
Shoryu Bradley received his education at University of Texas, where he studied Rehabilitation Counseling (Masters). In 2002, Shoryu was ordained at Austin Zen Center by his teacher Seirin Barbara Kohn, where he practiced until 2004. In 2004 Shoryu went to study Zazen and Dogen from Shohaku Okumura Roshi at Sanshin Zen Community. While undergoing training with Shohaku Okumura, Shoryu also visited and trained at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center. This training was rounded off with Sotoshu International Training Monastery angos held in the US and Japan. In 2010 Shoryu received dharma transmission from Okumura Roshi.
In 2011 with generous support Shoryu Bradley founded Gyobutsuji Zen Monastery in order to bring the intensive Zazen style of Antaiji to the United States
Teaching
Shoryu has dedicated his life to zazen and to the study and translation of Dogen's writings. The two main focuses of Shoryu's teaching career have been sharing the zazen practice of his teacher Shōhaku Okumura and helping in the editing of extensive commentaries on the works attributed to Dogen.
