Biography
Etsusaburō Shiina (椎名 悦三郎, Shiina Etsusaburo, January 16, 1898 – September 30, 1979) was a Foreign Minister of Japan from 1964–66 and played a pivotal role in ensuring peace between Japan and the Republic of Korea.
Shiina was the first of the Japanese Ministry of Commerce and Industry Officials tojoin Manchukuo's industrial administration.
He issued the apology "In our two countries' long history, there have been unfortunate times... it is truly regretable and we are deeply remorseful" during the signing of the Treaty on Basic Relations between Japan and the Republic of Korea on 22 June 1965.
He was buried in the Shunjuen Cemetery in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
