Shaun R. Harper (born October 26, 1975) is an American scholar and racial equity expert in the United States of America. He also is one of the most highly ranked, cited, quoted, and prolific professors in the field of education.
He is a professor in the Graduate School of Education, Africana Studies, and Gender Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where he founded and serves as executive director of the Center for the Study of Race & Equity in Education. Harper is best known for his research on race and gender in education and social contexts, equity trends and climate issues on college campuses, Black and Latino male student success in high school and higher education, college student engagement, and intercollegiate athletics. He has published 12 books and over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and other academic publications, and received more than $12 million in research grants and contracts. Professor Harper’s research has been cited in over 5,000 published studies. He is president of the Association for the Study of Higher Education and a member of President Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance Advisory Council.
