Biography

Seema Tomar (Hindi: सीमा तोमर) (born ; 3 July 1982, Johri, Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, India) is an Indian Trap shooterand the only Indian woman to win shotgun Silver Medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. She belongs to Johri village of Uttar Pradesh falls under Baghpat district of West UP. In her family, every third woman is a shooter and her mother, Prakashi Tomar is the oldest woman shooter in the country. Tomar is a well-known name in the world of shooting on both national and international fronts. Presently, she is commissioned in the Indian Army.

Life and Biography

Seema, 32-year old, started learning shooting in 2002 atJohri rifle club. Initially, she was afraid to go shooting range alone than her mother, Prakashi Tomar, encouraged and joined her to the range, which boosted Seema's confidence level. After that, she started toiling hard and dedicated herself to the shooting game, which changed her identity in the society where the only males were considered capable. The year 2010 was a milestone in her career when her life took a major turn and she won a Silver Medal in 2010 ISSF World Cup.

Seema's mother Prakashi Tomar is also a shooter and won many medals and trophies in the veteran category and she is famous as Revolver Dadi among people. Seema' has seven siblings her sister Rekha was also a shooter. In her family, most of the women are shooters even aunt, a septuagenarian, Chandro Tomar. Like Prakashi, Chandro has also participated in many frays. Prakashi also runs a shooting range in the village where many girls come to learn shooting from her.

In 2014, She won two golds at the Asian Shotgun Championships held in the United Arab Emirates in November 2014.

Seema won silver at the ISSF World Cup in Dorset, Britain. She had participated in various competitions in both single and double games. Besides medals, she got chances to meet Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, had lunch with Mr. perfectionist Aamir Khan and met then President of India Pranab Mukherjee.
