Ruscoe started his career with two years at Stoke City, before moving to Port Vale for one year. In the summer of 2000, he signed for Chester from Newtown, after scoring 17 goals in 92 League of Wales appearances for the Robins. He switched back to the Welsh Premier with TNS in January 2002, where he was called up to the Welsh semi-professional side that won the Four Nations trophy in 2004 and a member of the league's dream team in 2004/5 and 2005/6.
