Sang-Min Whang
Quick Facts
Biography
Sang-Min Leo Whang (November 11, 1962 - ) is a South Korean psychologist, author, and popular political commentator. His research mainly focused on the identity of Korean people, which he attempted to empirically investigate by connecting the concept with a variety of topics in reality, including online game, consumption, love, and political decision making. Whang's selected projects include WPI (Whang's Personality Inventory), research on the identities of online gamers, and the research on the politicians' image types. Whang worked as a professor in both Sejong University and Yonsei University, both located in South Korea. In 2016, he was dismissed from his full-professor post at Yonsei University for actively criticizing Geun-hye Park, the 11th President of South Korea who was impeached, and her regime. Whang's dismissal is appreciated as an example of an evidence of latent oppression on academia by power. He is currently running a Podcast "Whangsimso", which deals with current events, and also provides free counseling for its listeners.
