Biography
Ruth Chepng'etich (born 8 August 1994) is a Kenyan road racing athlete, who competes in marathon and long distance track events. Ruth is related to Rosefline Chepngetich. Ruth's time is No. 4 all-time behind world record holder (pending ratification) Brigid Kosgei 2:14:04, Paula Radcliffe 2:15:25, and 2:17:01 (women only world record holder) Mary Jepkosgei Keitany.
She is the 2019 Marathon World Champion.
Career
Ruth Chepngetich won the road race in 2:18:35 the women's race at the 2018 Istanbul Marathon. At the 40th Istanbul Marathon (IAAF Gold Label Road Race) Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich ran 2:18:35 (31:59 – 10 km, 48:15 – 15 km, 1:08:22 – Half Marathon, 1:37:42 – 30 km), and her time was a race record and best performance ever on Turkish soil, but especially the seventh best time in history, becoming the 10th athlete of all time to go below 2:19 and 30th under 2:20.
At the 20th Dubai Marathon (2019) Kenya's Ruth Chepng'etich celebrates winning at Dubai Marathon in a course record breaking time of 2 hours, 17 minutes and 07 seconds.
Ruth Chepng'etich ran the 20th fastest half marathon of all-time at 2019 Bahrain Night Half Marathon in a time of 66:09 (1:06:09).
Ruth Chepngetich ran the 12th fastest half marathon of all-time at 2019 Vodafone Istanbul Half Marathon in a time of 65:30 (1:05:30).
On 28 September 2019, she won the world title during the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, clocking 2:32.43 after a start at midnight. The silver medal went to Rose Chelimo with 2:33:46 (Bahrain) and bronze to Helalia Johannes (age 39) with 2:34:15. Chepngetich's time is the slowest world championship winning time so far. The second slowest happened in 2007 with Catherine Ndereba winning in 2:30.37 in Osaka. Only 40 out of 68 starters finished the race in Doha.
