Rufus Waller

Thomas Wright "Fats" Waller (May 21, 1904 – December 15, 1943) was an American jazz pianist, organist, composer, violinist, singer, and comedic entertainer. His innovations in the Harlem stride style laid the groundwork for modern jazz piano. His best-known compositions, "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Honeysuckle Rose", were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1984 and 1999.

Waller was born on May 21, 1904, in New York City. He was the youngest of 11 children born to Adeline Locket Waller and Rev. Edward Martin Waller. Waller started playing the piano at the age of six and by the age of 14, he was playing the organ at Harlem theaters.

Waller was one of the most popular performers of his era, known for his distinctive and energetic piano playing. He had a successful recording career and achieved fame with his composition "Ain't Misbehavin'". Waller's work influenced many future jazz musicians, and he is considered a pioneer of modern jazz piano.

Fats Waller contributed greatly to American music by pioneering the Harlem stride piano style, which laid the foundation for modern jazz piano. Thomas "Fats" Waller passed away on December 15, 1943, at the age of 39 due to pneumonia. During his lifetime, Waller had struggled with health issues, including obesity and high blood pressure.
