Biography

Rozel Ahmed (born 31 October 1998) is an International Cricket Commentator and former 1st division cricketer of Mymensingh District. Throughout his playing career, he used to play as an opening batsman and wicketkeeper.

Early Life

Rozel had been enamored with the sport of cricket since his formative years. Witnessing his fervent dedication to the game, his mother, Rozey Aktar, ingeniously crafted a wooden cricket bat for him in the year 2000. It was with this rudimentary yet cherished implement that he embarked upon his inaugural cricketing expedition, engaging in a spirited match alongside his neighbor's elder sibling, Oli.

As time elapsed, Rozel's prowess as a batsman burgeoned incrementally. Bolstered by the diverse experiences afforded by his father's vocation as a civil servant, which facilitated encounters with new acquaintances and esteemed mentors in various locales, Rozel's cricketing journey flourished.

Education

Rozel Ahmed's educational journey commenced at the nearby "Ammatul" school, where he began his academic voyage in the "playgroup" class. However, a familial decision led him to transition to "Ananda Path School" where his elder sister pursued her studies. Rozel continued his scholastic endeavors there from pre-school through to class 1. Seeking to enrich his educational experience, his father, Md. Jasim Uddin, opted to enroll him in the esteemed "Holy Soul Kinder Garden" in Mymensingh for the latter part of class 1 and class 2. Recognized for his academic acumen from a tender age, Rozel's father aspired to secure admission for him at the renowned Mymensingh Zilla School, the premier educational institution in the city.

Under the tutelage of the late Habibur Rahman Sir, a revered educator, Rozel prepared diligently and successfully gained admission to Mymensingh Zilla School in Class 3, joining the ranks of the esteemed institution's Day Shift. It was during his school years that Rozel's passion for cricket flourished. He devoted countless hours to the sport, playing fervently during breaks and even initiating various cricket tournaments within the school, including the Mymensingh Zilla School Premier League (MZPL) and bilateral series between coaching centers Protissruti and The Cadet.

Despite his academic achievements, Rozel faced challenges in his pursuit of higher education. Despite securing scholarships and commendable results in examinations, he encountered setbacks in gaining admission to government universities. Undeterred by these setbacks, Rozel persisted in his academic endeavors, eventually finding success with admission to the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), where he pursued a degree in Economics.

Driven by his ambition to become an international cricket commentator, Rozel remained steadfast in his pursuit, completing both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics with distinction from BUP in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

Career

During his freshman year at university, Rozel took up a job at a call center called Mitali International LLC as a customer relations executive. However, after just a month, he realized he couldn't juggle both his studies and his job effectively, prompting him to resign. In September, he found work as a background artist in a TV commercial (TVC). Shortly after, he received an offer to participate as a background artist in the "Bangabandhu Gold Cup Theme Song."

Rozel's commentary career took flight on November 18, 2018, when he began commentating for Last Man Stands Bangladesh. This marked the beginning of his official tenure as a commentator for the organization. He provided commentary for various global tournaments such as the Thailand Open, South Africa Championship, and Cox's Bazar Open. His commentary journey extended to radio when he commentated in Bangla for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on ABC Radio 89.2 FM.

Driven by his childhood aspiration inspired by Australian commentators, Rozel pursued his dream of becoming an English commentator. He served as a sports host and commentator at ABC Radio from May 2019 to February 2020 before transitioning to Last Man Stands as an official commentator in March 2020. In September of the same year, he joined Radio Bhumi FM 92.8.

Rozel's commentary portfolio expanded to include the "J'ADOUBE 100 Balls Inter-University T20 Cricket Tournament," where he also hosted the trophy unveiling ceremony alongside esteemed anchor Mousumi Mou. He continued his commentary engagements, including the "3rd Alumni MZS Ex-Students Sports Club" in February 2021.

Amidst a break due to the COVID-19 situation, Rozel resumed his commentary career in October with the "T SPORTS 100 Balls Corporate Clash." His remarkable performance caught the attention of T Sports, the country's premier sports channel. Subsequently, he received invitations to commentate on various prestigious tournaments, including the "Walton Presents Corporate T20 Cricket Tournament powered by TK Sports" and the "Life Springs Dominators Cup 2021," an international cricket tournament featuring teams from Russia, India, and Bangladesh.

Rozel's versatility as a commentator was further showcased in events like the BGMEA Cup 2021 auction presentation and the "Bangabandhu Four Nations Physically Challenged T20 Cricket Tournament 2022." His most significant opportunity came in May 2022 when he commentated on the "Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2021-22" alongside esteemed commentators.

Expanding beyond cricket, Rozel delved into other sports, including badminton commentary for the "Bashundhara Kings Badminton Stars Challenge 2022" and hockey commentary for the "Hockey Champions Trophy Bangladesh 2022."

On March 31, 2024, Rozel achieved a milestone in his career by making his international cricket commentary debut during the T20i series between Bangladesh Women and Australia Women.
