Biography

Rosamund Johnstone was a British foil fencer from London. She was a fencer at Salle Bertrand. She was one of the best female fencers in the early 20th-century. She was described by to Dutch newspaper De Sumatra post as a "famous fencer".

In March 1911, she competed at the 1911 England–Holland women's fencing competitions in London against Dutch women of Salle De Vos. She competed in November 1913 at the 1913 Alfred Hutton Memorial Challenge Cup where she was described having made "marked progress". In this competition she was eliminated in the semi-final. In 1914 she went with two other British women to the 1914 Salle Giandomenici international women's fencing competition in Amsterdam organized by Salle Giandomenici. This competition was the first women's fencing competition in the Netherlands with Dutch, British and Belgian competitors. In her first match she won surprisingly from the British champion C. E. Martin Edmunds. She lost her second match from the Dutch Esther Bekkers-Lopes Cardozo. Overall, after eight matches she won the third prize behind C. E. Martin Edmunds and Esther Bekkers-Lopes Cardozo.
