Biography

Ron Cahute (Ukrainian: Рoман Кoгут) (born 1955) is a Ukrainian-Canadian recording artist and songwriter. He is an accordion player and founding member of the Ukrainian-Canadian music band BURYA (Ukrainian: Буря). He is an arranger, sound engineer, music producer, and musical director for Ukrainian dance ensembles in Toronto.
Ron Cahute was born in Toronto, Canada.
Ron Cahute and BURYA are premier draws and very popular in the Ukrainian zabava music and Ukrainian festival scene in North America, Europe, and Australia. He is widely regarded as a seminal influence in Ukrainian music and Ukrainian folk music outside Ukraine and on Ukrainian-Canadian and Ukrainian-American musicians and music groups. He still performs and plays with BURYA today.
Along with Grammy winner Walter Ostanek, Cahute is recognized to be one of the top accordion players in North America.

Music career

Ron Cahute began his music career in 1962 as a drummer in the band of his late father Maurice Cahute. In 1969, he founded a Ukrainian-Canadian music band, which was later called BURYA.

In his 47-year career, Ron Cahute and BURYA have performed over two thousand shows for over a million people around the world. They have toured Canada, USA, Europe, South America, and Australia. In a recent interview with UkeTube - Ukrainian Video, Ron expressed a desire for a BURYA tour of Ukraine.

He is one of the most productive and industrious Ukrainian musicians outside Ukraine releasing over 30 albums either with BURYA or as a solo artist. As a guest performer with other music artists he has performed on 178 albums. Cahute has performed with Nana Mouskouri, Sofia Rotaru, Lisa Dalbello, Melissa Manchester, and Catherine McKinnon.
