Biography
Robin Romei (pronounced rɒbɪn rɒmeɪ) is a British Musical Artist.
Musical career
Romei began recording and distributing his music using his own name at 18 years old, using websites such as Myspace and Reverbnation to begin gaining notoriety. Romei frequently released songs directly to followers on various online platforms; heavily influenced by Rock Music and the emerging lo-fideility Glitch genre pioneered by musicians such as Crystal Castles and schoolmates ihauntwizards. Romei characteristically sings with a British accent. During this period Romei was interviewed by ILoveMakonnen on his online blog, forming a lasting relationship and also began creating melodies and samples for other musicians. Romei was scouted by Brighton-based promotors Kong Promotions and advised to put together a live outfit to participate in the Club NME tour.
To fulfil dates on the back of online interest, at the end of 2009 Romei formed a three-piece band carrying out vocal and guitar duty alongside old secondary school friends Joe Joyce (Bass) and Paddy Christie (Drums) playing multiple shows across the south east; specifically Brighton and Crawley.
Romei spent time bringing original music together in an EP. The Untitled EP contained 5 tracks stirring interest from Animal Farm Records & Fat Cat Records.
Romei continued playing with Christie as a two piece in prestigious London Venues and later in the year worked with producer Adrian Hall who had worked alongside artists such as Big Deal (band) as well as mixing for Depeche Mode. In late 2012 Romei recorded Effy/(We Are) The Underdogs at The Premises Studios.
Romei played multiple UK dates in 2013 promoting the upcoming single release. Romei was picked up by label ‘The Playground’ and released Effy in November 2013, personally recommend by Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio.
Following the success of Effy, Romei spent time in the studio working on material over the winter and returned with Hall again to record ‘Vapours’, a song written about electronic cigarettes and vaping. The song was a blend of rock pop and electronic genres. The single was released in July 2014 alongside the ‘B-Side’ ‘I Can’t Wait’. The song was championed by Gary Crowley and Playlisted on BBC London.
