Biography

Prof Robert William Johnstone CBE, FRSE, FRCOG, (1879–1969) was a Scottish surgeon and a founding Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Life

In 1911 he was living at 2 Randolph Place on the edge of the Moray Estate in Edinburgh.

He served with the Royal Army Medical Corps during the First World War. After the war he was lecturer and then professor of obstetrics at the University of Edinburgh.

In 1920 he began working at the Edinburgh Royal Maternity Hospital. In 1922 he moved to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as Assistant Gynaecologist.

From 1926 to 1946 he was Professor of Midwifery at Edinburgh University succeeding Benjamin Philip Watson. He was succeeded in turn by Robert James Kellar.

He retired in 1946 and died in 1969.
