Lofts of the University of Hong Kong, Father H. Naylor of Wah Yan College (Kowloon), Mr. John H. Pain and others. Mr. Robert Rayne was born in Kenya. He studied Greek and Latin classics at Oxford University, earning an M.A. degree. He served as a bomber pilot with the Royal Air Force during World War II, before becoming a prisoner of war in Germany. Beginning in 1950, he took an active part in establishing and developing the University of Keele, where he served as a lecturer in classics. In 1964, he and his wife and daughter moved to Hong Kong from England to become Vice-President of Chung Chi College, a position left vacant by the retirement of Dr. Leslie G. Kilborn in 1963.
